Scott Carroll pitched a season-long eight innings to get the victory and Dave Sappelt found three different ways to drive in runs as the Mudcats beat the homestanding West Tenn Diamond Jaxx 3-1 on Friday night.

The win improved the Mudcats to 10-8 in the second half, tying them for first place with the Chattanooga Lookouts for first place atop the Southern League’s North Division.

Carolina is 4-2 on its current road trip, guaranteeing a winning swing with only Saturday’s game remaining before the All-Star Break.

Carroll (2-4) allowed six hits and the one run, striking out seven without a walk before Jerry Gil came on for his fourth save with a perfect ninth. Jarrett Grube (1-2) took the loss.
