Justin Maxwell’s two-run homer was the biggest blow for the Syracuse Chiefs as they topped the visiting Durham Bulls 6-2 on Sunday.

The result ended Durham’s four-game winning streak.

Things didn’t go well for the Carolina Mudcats either, as they dropped a 10-7 road decision to the Chattanooga Lookouts to fall to 0-2 in the current series.

Durham plays its finale at Syracuse on Monday, then returns home Tuesday to open a four-game set with the Buffalo Bisons.

The Mudcats play Game 3 in their five-game set at Chattanooga on Tuesday.

Syracuse 6, Bulls 2
Shairon Martis (3-4) got the victory for Syracuse, which held the Bulls to only five hits.

Aneury Rodriguez (2-4) took the loss.

Bill Rhinehart added a solo shot for Syracuse.

Dan Johnson led the Bulls’ offense with a solo homer, his team-leading 16th clout of the campaign, while Matt Joyce added a double and a single.

Chattanooga 10, Mudcats 7
Corey Smith doubled with three RBI while Elian Herrera added two doubles and knocked in a run as the Lookouts won a slugfest.

Mike Costanzo homered with two singles and four RBI for Carolina, which outhit the hosts 12-10. Brandon Yarbrough added a homer and a single for three RBI for the Mudcats.

Jesus Castillo (3-6) was the winning pitcher with Jon Huber collecting his fifth save. Alexander Smit (1-5) suffered the loss.
