N.C. Central made another good run at an established Division I team, but the Eagles eventually fell 68-58 at East Carolina.

The Eagles (2-12), who had lost on their two previous trips to Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum by an average of 19 points, trailed just 56-54 on a Nick Chasten (pictured) jumper with 4:59 to go before the Pirates (6-8) scored the next six points to get some breathing room.

All five ECU starters were in double figures. Darrius Morrow led the way with 17 points while Chad Wynn had a double-double of 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Jontae Sherrod added 13 points for the Pirates, followed by Brock Young and Jamar Abrams with 12 points each.

C.J. Wilkerson led NCCU with 18 points, followed by T.J. Granger with 16 and Michael Glasker with 10 points and nine assists.

The Eagles’ next game is on Wednesday night at Colgate.
