The mountain was just too high for Duke to climb Tuesday night.
Kayla Pedersen had 22 points and eight rebounds for No. 2 Stanford, as the Cardinal stretched its winning streak at Maples Pavilion to 34 games with a 71-55 win over the No. 7 Blue Devils.
Karima Christmas (pictured) led the way with 16 points and Jasmine Thomas added 14 for Duke (7-2) which had defeated Stanford 56-52 in Durham last season.
Nnemkadi Ogwumike chipped in 18 points and eight rebounds for the Cardinal (8-0), which built a 17-point first-half lead that the Blue Devils were unable to erase. Reserve JJ Hones added 12 points for Stanford, while Jayne Appel chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds.
It was the first loss for Duke coach Joanne P. McCallie in four meetings with Stanford.
