The Mudcats got homers from Dave Sappelt and Richmond County product Brandon Yarbrough, leading Carolina to a 5-3 road victory over the Tennessee Smokies.
The win was Carolina’s third in four tries against the Smokies this week, clinching the win in the five-game series.
Dallas Buck (3-3) had a quality start to claim the victory, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing a pair of runs on seven hits with three strikeouts against one walk. while Hung-Wen Chen (3-3) took the loss. Jordan Smith claimed the save on a second consecutive night to give him five for the season.
Carolina, which has won seven of its last nine games, is now within seven games of the first-place Smokies.
The Mudcats will return home Saturday night to open a five-game series against the Jacksonville Suns.
