Duke’s Joanne P. McCallie has been named ACC women’s basketball coach of the year while Virginia’s Monica Wright is player of the year in a vote of the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel and coaches.

It was the fifth conference coach of the year award for McCallie, who won the Big Ten honor at Michigan State in 2005, the America East honor at Maine in 1999 and the North Atlantic Conference honors at Maine in 1995 and 1996.

Duke (24-5) won the ACC’s regular-season title and is currently ranked No. 6 nationally. McCallie is 76-21 in three seasons at Duke.

Wright was also named the ACC’s defensive player of the year.
