Tuesday was a rough night for the Triangle’s two pro baseball teams, with the Carolina Mudcats getting the worst of it.

The Mudcats gave up eight runs in the sixth inning in a 12-5 road loss at Jacksonville that was their ninth straight defeat, while Durham fell 9-5 in the opener of its four-game set at Buffalo.

Carolina will play the finale of its current series with Jacksonville today, while the Bulls will take on the Bisons in the second game of the series.

Buffalo 9, Bulls 5

Mike Hessman homered twice for four RBI, leading the Bisons to victory over the visiting Bulls in the opener of their four-game series.

Chris Richard homered for the Bulls, who outhit Buffalo 12-11.

Mike Jacobs had a three-run double for Buffalo.

Kiko Calero (2-0) was the winning pitcher, while Joaquin Benoit (0-1) took the loss in relief.

Dan Johnson added a pair of hits for two RBI for the Bulls.

Jacksonville 12, Mudcats 6

Mark Saccomanno knocked a pair of doubles for four RBI as the Suns claimed a fourth straight win over Carolina.

Osvaldo Martinez had four hits with two RBI for Jacksonville, helping Todd Doolittle (1-0) get the victory in relief.

Jacksonville outhit the Mudcats 12-11, dropping the loss on reliever Daryl Harang (1-1).

Jose Castro led the Mudcats with a pair of hits for two RBI, while Jake Kahaulelio doubled and singled.
