Veteran lefty Alexander Smit (1-5, 9.14) announced his intentions to retire from baseball and return to his home country of The Netherlands, and has been placed on the restricted list.
That happened in Chattanooga, where doubles from Kris Negron and Dave Sappelt had produced a first-inning run before the game was washed out in the second. Since it was the teams’ last meeting in the first half, the game will not be made up.
The Mudcats will return home Thursday night at 7:15 against the Huntsville Stars.
