The ACC announced pairings for its women’s basketball tournament beginning Thursday morning at Greensboro Coliseum just moments after the end of Duke’s victory over UNC on Sunday afternoon.
Both N.C. State and UNC will play Thursday night, with the No. 10 seed Wolfpack (13-16) taking on No. 7 seed Boston College (18-11) at 6 p.m. followed by No. 6 seed UNC (22-7) against No. 11 seed Clemson (10-19) at 8.
The Wolfpack split its regular-season series with the Eagles, winning in a mild upset 80-69 on Thursday night at Reynolds Coliseum. UNC will be heavily favored over the Tigers.
Defending champion and top-seeded Duke (26-3) won’t play until Friday at 3, when it takes on the winner of Thursday’s 3 p.m. first-round contest between No. 9 seed Wake Forest (14-16) and No. 8 seed Virginia (16-14).
The tournament opens at 11 a.m. on Thursday, with No. 5 seed Georgia Tech (21-9) facing No. 12 Virginia Tech (11-18).
The championship game is on Sunday at 1 p.m., with the winner of course getting the automatic NCAA Tournament bid.
Half of the conference is expected to be invited to the NCAA Tournament, with another couple of teams receiving NIT bids.
