It wasn’t a good night for the Triangle’s two minor-league baseball teams.
Both played on the road on Thursday, and neither one of them scored.
The Durham Bulls did have one positive about their 4-0 loss to the Buffalo Bisons in which they got just one hit, as Heath Phillips tossed the team’s first complete game of the season.
But for the Carolina Mudcats the news was all bad, as they lost their 11th straight game in a 5-0 decision to the Mobile Bay Bears with ace Matt Klinker suffering the loss. The Mudcats are one short of the club’s consecutive-loss record set in 1992.
The Bulls play the finale of their Buffalo series on Friday night, while the Mudcats will play the second of their five-game set at Mobile.
Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey gave up a leadoff single to Fernando Perez and didn’t allow another Bull to reach base as the Bisons got their second win in three games of the series.
Phillips, who didn’t walk anyone, allowed the four runs — three earned — on eight hits.
Buffalo got a home run from Ruben Tejada and an RBI single from Chris Carter.
Mobile 5, Mudcats 0
Cyle Hankerd had two hits including a double with an RBI as the BayBears took the series opener.
Wes Roemer (2-1) was the winning pitcher, striking out eight while allowing five hits in a complete game.
Yonder Alonso’s double was Carolina’s only extra-base hit.
