N.C. State wasn’t quite able to complete a long comeback, ending up on the short end of an 81-75 women’s basketball loss at Richmond.

Brittani Shells led the Spiders (3-1) with 28 points, followed by Abby Oliver with 19 and Kristi Puthoff-King with 10.

Marissa Kastanek had 19 points to lead four players in double figures for the Wolfpack (2-2). Amber White added 16 while Bonae Holston chipped in a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds and Brittany Strachan added 12 points.

Richmond led 52-37 at halftime. The Wolfpack cut the lead to 76-73 and had a chance to tie before the Spiders regained their composure.

State hosts Old Dominion on Tuesday night.
