CARMICHAEL ARENA/CHAPEL HILL It’s the regular season opener here in historic Carmichael Arena, as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Tar Heels take on the University of North Florida Ospreys. It’s redshirt senior Jessica Breland’s regular season return since she’s recovered from Hodgkin’s lymphoma. In the end, it’s the home team who comes on top, 110-41.

Breland scored only eight points, but had eleven rebounds. Starting guard Italee Lucas scored the most points out of the Tar Heels with 21 points, 15 of those from beyond the arc. Tied for second is scoring with 21 points are Waltiea Rolle, Chay Shegog and She’la White; Shegog also had 14 rebounds, making for a double-double. Laura Broomfield and Shannon Smith both scored nine points.

The Ospreys’ highest scorer was guard Brittany Kirkland with 15 points in 29 minutes played. Jadhken Kerr had eight of the 41 points, and Larika Jones had six.
