Charlie Montoyo has been named manager of the International League team for the Triple-A All-Star Game on July 14 at Lehigh Valley, the league has announced.
Montoyo led the Durham Bulls to the Triple-A National Championship in 2009, has led his team to the Governors’ Cup Finals in each of his three seasons as manager and has them with the biggest lead of any team in the current IL standings.
He was named minor-league manager of the year last season by Baseball America, and was honored by Minor League Baseball with the Mike Coolbaugh Award for outstanding work ethic, knowledge of the game, and mentoring of young players.
The IL’s other coaches are Lehigh Valley’s Dave Huppert and Indianapolis’ Frank Kremblas, while Lehigh Valley’s Jason Kirkman is the trainer.
Daren Brown of Tacoma will manage the Pacific Coast League squad, assisted by Salt Lake’s Erik Bennett and Memphis’ Mark Budaska. New Orleans’ Steve Miller is the trainer.
