Raspberry Magic
Galaxy Cinema
Opens Friday

Writer-director Leena Pendharkar, a UNC graduate, will be in the area this weekend to discuss her feature film Raspberry Magic, which will be playing a regular engagement at the Galaxy Cinema. Her film is targeted to young people, and it concerns a girl and her 6th-grade science fair project about raspberry bushesshe hopes that the flourishing of her bushes will help heal her fractured family. The film touches on a number of important issues, including supporting opportunities for girls to explore careers in science and organic farming. There is nothing flashy about the film, with its largely unknown cast (save for a bit by 30 Rock’s Maulik Pancholy), straightforward storytelling and intense sincerity. But its heart is 100 percent in the right place. Visit www.mygalaxycinema.com for more information.
