Chris Gethard
Wednesday, Mar. 6, 8 p.m., $18–$20
Motorco Music Hall, Durham
Chris Gethard is one of our favorite “that guy!” comedians. This means we don’t exactly follow him and don’t necessarily know what all he does, but we do get excited when he pops up as a character actor in something we happen to be watching.
To diehard fans, Gethard the star of the long-running (and recently retired) The Chris Gethard Show, which began as a live show at Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre before moving to public-access TV, then onward to cable channels Fusion and truTV, where it met its demise last year. He’s also the host of the popular podcast Beautiful Stories from Anonymous People and the author of the recent book Lose Well.
But to us, Gethard will always the harried boss from Broad City, the Steve-obsessed Sex in the City tour guide from Inside Amy Schumer, and the guy Angela tried to hire to assassinate Oscar in The Office. (We’re also fans of his performance in Mike Birbiglia’s film Don’t Think Twice.) Before Gethard brings his particular brand of self-deprecating, depressive charm to Motorco on Wednesday, March 6, here are a few of our favorite “that guy!” moments.
