Bartlett Theater Presents Annie Baker’s Pulitzer Prize winning play, The Flick
In Annie Baker’s 2013 Pulitzer-winning play, Rose, Avery, and Sam are a trio of misfits working at a run-down cinema in a small Massachusetts town. Avery’s a socially awkward film geek on hiatus from the college up the road. Hard-partying indie girl Rose is a devotee of the leap-before-looking school of liaisons. Sam is thirty-five, still living at home, and still looking for a promotion at this dead-end gig. Since their lives are hung up in different holding patterns that play out in the theater’s Coke-spilled aisles and gummy seats, none are suitable candidates for a workplace romance. To be determined: Can they make any other human relationship work any better? Itinerant indie Bartlett Theater scored the perfect venue for this play when they learned Northgate Mall was looking for trial-balloon live shows for its Stadium Cinema 10. Presto: a play about a movie theater, staged in one. Jonathan Bohun Brady directs Chloe Oliver, Vincent Bland Jr., and Jim Roof. Popcorn and drinks are on sale in the lobby. —Byron Woods
