The BrickUniverse Lego Fan Convention returns to Raleigh for its fifth visit to North Carolina, promising the debut of new creations—including a Mount Rushmore design by the Chicago-based artist Rocco Buttliere, which took more than four hundred hours and twenty-two thousand bricks to construct—by renowned Lego artists. Don’t expect to just admire the creations of others, though, because there will be multiple areas available for you to demonstrate your architectural chops. Building stations range from the Big Brick Building Zone, filled with Duplo bricks for the younger set, to the Star Wars Zone, where you can one-up the Empire by avoiding fatal design flaws in your evil doom bases. If you’re feeling confident, there’s even a chance to compete against other attendees in building challenges. You will also be able to meet award-winning Lego artists and authors and drain your wallet at vendors offering all manner of “oh, that’s cool” Lego merchandise. —Curt Fields
