Black Wholes as Possibilities
PRESS RELEASE:
On view in the Semans Gallery, Derrick Beasley's photo and sculpture exhibit, “Black Wholes as Possibilities,” is an exploration of black holes as a way to understand the long-standing absence of holistic depictions of Black folks (Black Wholes). It explores what it is like to be and experience a Black (W)hole, as well as the distorted vastness of the void experienced when you are not seen as whole, made invisible by the weight of your experience.
The artist reception will be on Durham Third Friday, October 18, 6pm, and will feature the artist talk “Why we should dive into Black Wholes, Derrick Beasley in conversation with Monèt Noelle Marshall.” This exhibit is held in conjunction with Click! Photography Festival.
