Dubsgiving
For the past few years, Durty Dub frontman Will Darity has been responsible for Dubsgiving, a post-Thanksgiving party that doubles as a birthday party that’s open to the public. This year, the varied bill features blends of hip-hop, soul, funk, and jazz sandwiching throwback pop. Headliner Young Bull is one of Durham’s most promising upstart ensembles, backing up their charming braggadocio with serious musical chops. What began as a collaboration between new friends at the Durham School of the Arts has become one of the area’s most inventive and exciting acts. The band delivered crowd-pleasing sets at both Hopscotch and the Art of Cool Festival this year—expect no less here, as not even a dozen turkeys’ worth of tryptophan can combat the band’s high-energy enthusiasm. From Atlanta, Breathers offer glossy electropop tunes that feel like a boomerang back to the eighties. Niito is the local soul and R&B-heavy act formerly known as N’Kogniito. With Durham’s DJ Shahzad. —Allison Hussey
