Is Wunderbar going to be the final tour by the transgender actor, marathon runner, and stand-up comedian Eddie Izzard? First, he hinted on his website that he’d be “go[ing] off for awhile to have a political life” at the end of his current worldwide excursion. Then, two weeks ago, he told the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant that he’d stand for election as a Labor Party candidate in the next House of Commons election. “My politics will be positive and progressive,” he said. “It is up to us, the people who care about other people, to take care of this world.” But before that, the sharp-witted surrealist John Cleese once called “the lost Python” has a few choice bits on Trump (“a chicken,” he notes) and the history of Earth. “History is a good subject because it never gets dated,” he has said. “I want to show that it’s constantly repeating itself. And I want to ridicule its stupidity.”
