Old Marley—dead as a doornail, and less than happy on that count—stared at the spectral accountant in dismay. “Scrooge? I have to redeem old Scrooge? The one man I knew who was worse than I was? Impossible!” But what did he think the one deed that could keep him from Hell’s eternal bonfire would be? Easy? Then the old reprobate remembered the final, unpardonable disservice that Ebenezer Scrooge had done him, at his death, and that was that. “I’ll be damned if I’ll lift my littlest fingernail to save him! I’ll be damned if I will!” After a moment, a dry voice broke the silence: “Rather, old thing, you’ll be damned if you don’t.” In the title role of this NRACT coproduction with Actor’s Comedy Lab, Tony Hefner flips the script on Dickens’s tale as the world’s second-greatest miser, and sharp Scott Nagel plays the first.
