Sam Green & Yo La Tengo: The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller
to
Duke Campus: Reynolds Industries Theater Bryan Center, West Campus, Durham, North Carolina
On Friday, filmmaker Sam Green presents his ever-growing “live documentary” The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller, which follows the life’s work of the visionary architect, author, designer, futurist, and inventor of the title. Fuller is most famous for patenting the geodesic dome and coining the term “spaceship Earth,” so you have him to thank the next time you visit Epcot. Fuller was also once a resident of North Carolina, having taught at Black Mountain College and N.C. State in the late 1940s and ‘50s. Green, whose other works include the live documentary The Measure of All Things and the Oscar-nominated film The Weather Underground, narrates as he displays slides and footage of Fuller’s work. At this Duke Performances show, prolific indie-rock group Yo La Tengo performs an original score for the imagery, a big draw for music fans regardless of whether they care about visionary design and experimental film.
