The Sonic South is a live listening room featuring creative use of the Southern Oral History Program's archive.
In its second year, the Southern Oral History Program's Sonic South audio competition becomes a live listening room. The program commissions audio producers to creatively interpret and use its archive of 6,000 interviews with Southerners from all walks of life. This year's theme, "In Sickness & In Health," asked producers to choose stories about health, illness, and medical care in their own lives, in their families, and in their communities. The five finalists will be played, and a discussion with the producers follows. A light reception precedes the program. Audience members will get to select a crowd favorite. Free and open to the public.
