Stargazing Party
to
Burwell School Historic Site 319 N Churton St, Hillsborough, North Carolina
PRESS RELEASE:
Come scan the heavens at the very peak of the August Perseid Meteor Shower with Hillsborough's own astronomer, Jerry Vinski, from a sweet spot on the Burwell School lawn. Bring your chair or blanket along (and maybe your flashlight to guide your way back to your car at the end!)
Whitt's Frozen Custard will be on hand selling treats from 7:30 - 8:30.
Jerry will pass out copies of the August sky chart and give viewers a look at the skies through his 10" Meade telescope. Come early to get a good spot and examine the sky chart in advance. Grab a bottle of water, buy a Whitt's Frozen Custard and settle in for the show.
At about 8:30 pm, it will be dark enough to start. Jerry promises we'll be able to see Saturn and Jupiter plus at least one meteor fall. He'll be sending his magical green laser pointer right into the sky to show us which constellations are in the summer sky. It will be a very different experience from just looking up at the sky from your backyard.
If the weather's not cooperating on Saturday night, we'll move the party to Sunday night. Check the website (www.burwellschool.org) to be sure.
