Ben Folds may run his music career from Nashville these days, but the piano-playing pop star (does that title still apply?) hails from Winston-Salem and built his music career in Chapel Hill, of course.
Monday afternoon, Duke Performances announced that Folds will come home again in April, teaming with Brooklyn new music sextet yMusic for a tour beginning April 22 at the university’s remodeled Baldwin Auditorium. Folds and yMusic have recorded an album of new material together, and it’s expected this spring. yMusic is currently an artist-in-residence at Duke, too, and they’ll play Ph.D. student compositions tomorrow night at Motorco.
Though Folds is mostly known for his pop-rock songwriting, he’s performed with symphonies all over the world (including North Carolina). Last year, he even performed a piano concerto he wrote with the Nashville Symphony. That said, he was on The Sing-Off for several years, too. Other details for this yMusic collaboration are scant, but tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. here.
