With Shakori Hills, Art of Cool, and Moogfest on the immediate horizon, we’re in the full swing of music festival season. Today, Hopscotch teased its full lineup announcement, which lands on May 9, with one band: Lavender Country, a Seattle act heralded as the first openly gay country band.

On September 10, the pioneering queer act will take the stage at Fletcher Opera Theater for the band’s debut performance in North Carolina. Frontman Patrick Haggerty is an immensely charming, charismatic figure, and Lavender Country dates are few and far between—this one should be a treat.

Chapel Hill’s Paradise of Bachelors reissued Lavender Country’s lone self-titled record in 2014, and the LP still shines forty years later as a defiant stand for LGBTQ rights. With the state’s current HB 2 crisis, this announcement feels that much more significant.
