Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jorma Kaukonen stopped at the Lincoln Theatre recently to promote his new Ain’t in No Hurry with an intimate acoustic show. Kaukonen captivated the partially seated crowd, as he leaned heavily on a blues-based set and referenced the influence that Reverend Gary Davis had throughout his career. “Death Don’t Have No Mercy” and “Samson and Delilah” showcased Kaukonen’s masterful acoustic style.

Similar to the title track from his new work, “New Song (for the Morning)” explored themes of rebirth and questioning a higher purpose. Kaukonen almost whispered through a few numbers, causing the attentive crowd to lean forward in their seats, hanging on each word and finger-picked note. Outside of an occasional beer bottle deposited in the trash, the crowd sat silent and still.
