Still riding high on the May release of their album, Such Jubilee, Mandolin Orange released a stunning new video yesterday for their “Jump Mountain Blues.” The song follows a folktale about a young woman who loves one man but whose father wants her to marry another. In classic ballad fashion, the saga ends unhappily when she leaps from Jump Mountain.
The video traces the story with beautiful paper animation by Carrboro’s Abe Spear. Silhouettes of Emily Frantz and Andrew Marlin are cut between scenes from the story. The intricate detail of Spear’s work is breathtaking, matching Mandolin Orange’s skill for crafting songs that are subtle and stunning.
