Part of the code of being a musician includes occasionally doing what you do in support of a cause, a friend or the survivors of catastrophes natural and man-made.
The year 2005 saw an exceptional need for that, and from the tsunami aid shows that sprang up almost every weekend for the first few months of the year to the need for aid still very real along our Gulf Coast, dozens of shows have been put together, promoted and played. For the folks who hosted, performed and helped organize and run the benefits, we want to say thanks. At the marathon Band Together show at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, 14 bands played for 12 hours and raised $48,000 for victims of Hurricane Katrina. That’s soundman Jac Cain on our cover at that gig somewhere in the middle of a 16-hour day.
In addition to putting together benefits, this was also a prolific year for recorded material. Inside, we’ve compiled a list of roughly 150 records released in the Triangle.
