This is the start of a new music feature called Instrumentalists, which will focus on how the best local musicians get their sounds.
Scott McCall has played guitar in Two Dollar Pistols since 1999, joining not long after that honky-tonk gem cut an EP with a young singer named Tift Merritt. The Pistols played a final gig earlier this year, but McCall keeps moving: He recently finished a national tour as Merritt’s lead guitarist, and now temporarily off the road, he’s gigging around town with Kenny Roby’s The Mercy Filter and with Joe Romeo & the Orange County Volunteers. We caught him at home before a two-day stand with those bands at The Cave to talk about his impeccable tone and tasteful leads.
