The term “garage rock” gets tossed around a lot these days, but the work of the Forty-Fives (pictured right), an Atlanta, Ga.-based four-piece, truly does sound like it was made on a concrete floor in the late ’60s, with the cooler neighborhood kids looking on and the whole session fueled by lukewarm Schlitz; it’s half carport, half Cavern Club. Opening is Raleigh duo The Loners, who traffic in an equally raw-boned sound, and the Loners’ Eddie Taylor will be DJing between sets, spinning soul and R&B nuggets as well as some proto-punk. All that and free cake (happy birthday, Lisa B) at Kings, Saturday, March 1.
