The Coal Men, Mando Saenz
Hideaway BBQThe addition of keyboardist Jen Gunderman (Jayhawks) and guitarist Chris Frame (Son Volt) broadened this Tennessee trio’s palette on last year’s Beauty Is a Moment, adding ballast and breadth to ambling alt-country. Gunderman’s organ infuses tracks like the infectious opener “Pretty Girls” with greasy, Muscle Shoals soul. But, as always, front man Dave Coleman’s baritone rings out clean with a pantry of knee-bending (vocal) hooks. Talented singer/songwriter Mando Saenz combines dulcet folk-inflected Tex-Mex and dusty Texas country-rock with a reedy vocal ache. With Possum Jenkins at 9:30 p.m. for $8. Chris Parker

Performance Art Night
Common Ground TheatreAt Performance Art Night, the popular quarterly performance art revue, six actors brave the stage for 15 minutes, during which they riff on whatever quirky topic or obsession they wish. Past bits have included a Jesus stand-up comic and a performer shaving her legs with audience participation. The free event offers plenty of surprises along with drinks and snacks. For more info, visit www.cgtheatre.com or call 698-3870. Megan Stein
