Occoneechee Mountain–It’s prime season to explore the woods and backyards across North Carolina for reptile and amphibian sightings, especially as lizards, skinks and the taboo snake emerge for the summer and frogs and toads head for the cooling climes of farm ponds. Those frogs and toads are as easy to hear at night as they are to see during the day, but, for the untrained ear, nocturnal speciation among frogs and toads can be tough. Nine Inch Nails, Bauhaus
Alltel Pavilion–Trent Reznor’s 17-year-old project that introduced industrial rock to the alternative-hungry masses returns for a shed tour with odd partners in tow. Bauhaus harbored and fostered the most dramatic strains of goth at the dawn of the ’80s, turning moribund imagery into imaginative, visionary anthems. TV on the Radio, a Brooklyn band combining soul visions and avant schooling, threatens to be one of the most important acts of this decade, frontman Tunde Adebimpe saying something and saying it accessibly.
