DURHAM
PAMELA Z
Nasher Museum AuditoriumPamela Z’s altered vocal constructions owe a debt to the 1970s Kitchen scene of Soho New York, where Meredith Monk and Charlemagne Palestine turned their voices into avant instruments. Similiarly, Z twists air through processors and objects, controlling textures and timing with a synthesizer worn over several muscles. The result is playful and bewitching. This kicks off UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke’s Milestones Festival of New Music, which runs through Wednesday. For more, see www.duke.edu/web/dukeperfs. Tickets are $18 and the show begins at 8 p.m. Grayson Currin
