SCOTT MILLER & THE COMMONWEALTH
HIDEAWAY BBQScott Miller & the Commonwealth play rock ‘n’ roll that recognizes the value of pop hooks and history books, and the new live Reconstruction captures that glorious ruckus in all its ragged glory. Speaking of which, Miller and company cover Neil Young on the live record, as well as Tom Petty. Had they included their take on Nick Lowe’s “Jumbo Ark” and a Roger Miller cover, you’d have a Mount Rushmore of Miller’s main muses. Anne McCueAustralian by birth, Lucinda Williams circa Car Wheels by vocationopens. The music starts at 9:30 p.m., and it’ll cost you $15, $12 in advance. Rick Cornell

CONTRA DANCING
CARRBORO CENTURY CENTERTune up your fiddle and shake out your long skirt, folks, for it’s time for another contra dance! Contra dancing is a form of community folk dancing, derived from public dances in New England. Before that, the tradition comes mostly from the Old English country dancing. Today, contra dancing is accompanied by traditional music of the British Isles, as well as music from New England, Canada and the South. There is a beginner’s lesson at 7:30 and the dance starts at 8 p.m. The Carolina Cut-Ups will make the music. For more info, visit www.csda-dance.org or call 967-9948. Megan Stein
