ROMEO AND JULIET
DUKE CAMPUSRomeo and Juliet, poster children for star-crossed love, goes back to the ‘hood, a la West Side Story, in the Classical Theatre of Harlem’s interpretation of the play. Set in modern-day Harlem, this version features West Indian music and hip-hop beats and runs at Reynolds Theater tonight and tomorrow at 8 p.m. Check out dukeperformances.duke.edu/programs for more info. DEREK TRUCKS BAND
CAROLINA THEATREAnchored by steadfast drummer Yonrico Scott, Trucks’ band is competent and tight, if sometimes hammy. Still, Trucks plays his electric guitar in big, swooping sweeps and compact, tight flutters. His unimpeachable sense of space and timing recalls John Coltrane and, of course, the late guitarist whose band he now plays with, Duane Allman. Tickets for an 8 p.m. start are $34-$39. Prepare for twists about ponies and horns over arpeggiated Casiotones and beds of hot fuzz.
