Durham’s no stranger to the industrial burns of factory closings and urban decay, but a new exhibition at the Center for Documentary Studies, What Helps Dodge Helps You, brings a similar Philadelphia tale to visceral life. Philly’s integral Dodge Steel Castings factory closed in 1986, ravaging the local economy and landscape alike, and celebrated photographer Brian Moss took it all in using a specially mounted pinhole camera. The images are as remarkable as the camera: Moss pieced together his photographs to form stunning 10-foot square images, including shots of an infamous toxic waste dump. All his photos, artifacts and an audio tour of the factory with a lifelong employee are at CDS, along with his remarkable camera creation. The exhibit, free as always at CDS, runs until Sept. 27, with a special opening reception on Wednesday, July 23, at 6 p.m. (and the artist’s talk at 7 p.m.). Call 660-3663.
