A couple of years ago, our art critic Kate Dobbs Ariail said of artist Kathryn DeMarco, “the only inexplicable thing is why she is not already better known.

Get to know her better at her next Craven Allen Gallery exhibit, Glue, Paper, Scissors, which is opening this Saturday, June 28. Her work is–as you might figure from the title of the show–done in mixed media collage. DeMarco is a big animal lover and many of her pets and animal friends have sat for her portraits (“Rosie” is pictured left); part of the proceeds from her show will go to Durham’s Independent Animal Rescue, where she’s been a longtime volunteer. The opening reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, and her exhibit will be up until Sept. 13.

Craven Allen is located at 1106 1/2 Broad St., in Durham. Call 286-4837 for more information.
