She was born in Boston but grew up in Chapel Hill, the daughter of Dr. Taylor–the man for whom the Student Health Center is named. She’s probably more well-known as a onetime member of the band the Flying Machine and as sister to Alex, Livingston, Hugh and James (her early ’70s debut record was called Sister Kate). Now, after a 30-year career, including her recently released and well-received Beautiful Road, Kate Taylor plays her first show in the area where she grew up with a night at Cat’s Cradle, Thursday, Oct. 20. She’s a folk-rocker first, as you might suspect given her brothers, but she packs plenty of soul, gospel and mountain sounds in her music as well. Tickets are $20, and the show starts at 8 p.m.
