“Sometimes, I believe, a painting on a museum wall, surrounded by observers, possesses the same visual import as a natural landscape. Perhaps this has to do with the radiating light of its history … which can be caught only sideways, in between elbows; or perhaps it’s because some paintings are simply amazing, and we too become amazing, at least briefly, when we look at them.” Writer/photographer/NPR commentator JOHN ROSENTHAL likes to go to places where people go to see illuminating, touching, funny things: museums and zoos, especially. He’ll talk about Mornings at the Museum and Other Spectator Sports, a show of his archival ink prints, at TYNDALL GALLERIES in Chapel Hill this Sunday, Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. Call 942-2290 or see www. tyndallgalleries.com for details.
