Sisters of all ages and persuasions can relax, relate and release when the eighth annual Women’s Empowerment Expo returns to the Capital City this Saturday. Sponsored by Radio One Raleigh, the community-focused event–which drew over 11,000 participants last year–will be held at the RBC Center. Featured in this year’s lineup of offerings is a keynote speech by editorial director of Essence magazine Susan L. Taylor (pictured left); performances by national recording artists Dottie Peoples, Jeff Majors, Mike Phillips, Syleena Johnson, Heather Headley and Brian McKnight; a fashion show; men’s area; as well as a series of informational workshops and seminars led by experts and community leaders. And conference participants aren’t the only ones who will benefit from Saturday’s event: Through Radio One’s Sister Care drive, personal care items donated by expo attendees will benefit community organizations such as women’s shelters and crisis centers. To participate in a day of communal empowerment, call 834-4000 to purchase tickets, or visit www.womensempowermentexpo.com. Saturday, March 22, noon-8 p.m. (doors open at 11 a.m).
