Local shelter: Hundreds of people evacuees arrived Monday in Raleigh, where they will stay at the Wake County Hurricane Disaster Victim Center near the N.C. State Fairgrounds. Food is provided, but donations of new clothes and toys are needed. N.C. Peace & Justice Coalition: Raising money to charter buses to deliver donated supplies and then offer to bring refugees back to be hosted by Triangle families. Cameron Park Neighborhood in Raleigh: Running a letter-writing campaign to offer personal, handwritten words of encouragement to people who have fled to the Houston convention center. Children are encouraged to write. Packages will also include stationery, pens and stamps for evacuees to write their loved ones.
