William Price Fox‘s autobiographical novel, Wild Blue Yonder (pictured right) begins in his native South Carolina, ca. 1942, with 16-year-old Earl Edge, a small-town troublemaker running out of options. With police and truant officers on his tail, Edge lies about his age and joins the Air Force. What follows is the saga, conveyed through Edge’s journal entries, of hard-won personal growth and friendships won and lost. The story depicts World War II from the viewpoint of the guys lowest on the totem pole. Fox, who has taught at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop and is currently writer-in-residence at the University of South Carolina, will be reading from and signing his book at McIntyre’s Fine Books at Fearrington Village in Hillsborough this Saturday, Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. Call 542-3030 for details.
