Director Dov Weinstein burst onto the theater scene with a handful of small plastic figurines in 2000, when his Tiny Ninja Theater Presents Macbeth won rave reviews at the New York International Fringe Festival. Weinstein is a kind of puppetmaster, reciting the abridged but actual lines for his inch-high actors as they act out the scenes of Shakespeare’s classics in amusing sets (a shoe box, a guitar case) he creates for them. His small (ahem) New York-based company has staged Romeo and Juliet and the bard’s sonnets, as well as a handful (ha) of political pieces, such as The Effects of Nuclear War. We’re lucky to have four nights to see TINY NINJA THEATER‘s interpretation of HAMLET, a play that, in a sense, is about feeling small in the big scheme of things. The show runs at Durham’s Manbites Dog Theater Wednesday-Sunday, Dec. 7-11 (no Friday performance) and starts at 8:15 p.m. except for a 3:15 p.m. show on Sunday, Dec. 11.
