Trekky Yuletide Orchestra
Cat’s CradleTrekky Records’ flirtation with Christmas musicfrom carols to classics to tunes of their ownstarted with the Chapel Hill label’s yuletide gatherings, where eggnog and guitar strums were swapped freely among bands and friends. Those smallish sing-alongs soon sparked a larger movement for the label, as bandmates gathered to form the Trekky Yuletide Orchestra. Now, the big band serenades indie-rockers everywhere with a healthy helping of acoustic ballads and symphonic carols sprinkled with seasonal spirit.

Last year, the Trekky Yuletide Orchestra delivered a stellar album filled with both religious renditions and consumer-friendly tunes. This year, the festivities continue with the third annual TYO show, featuring Billy Sugarfixx as host, a growing orchestra (25 plus members will take the stage this year), new songs, a raffle, classic flicks and a photo-op with the man in red himself. In the spirit of the season, local Triangle musicians will take the stage to spread the Yuletide warmth. Expect holiday-inspired sets from Megafaun, Sorry About Dresden, Future Kings of Nowhere, The Scene of the Crime Rovers, North Elementary, The International Grapevine and Rock & Roll Elf (members of the Kingsbury Manx). The show comes full circle with all proceeds going to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Give your ears a present at 7:30 p.m. for $8-$10. Kathy Justice
