Shostakovich Pub Concert
Humble PieThis intimate evening concert highlights one of Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich’s most intriguing pieces, String Quartet No. 8. Both private and emotional, this composition is dedicated to “the victims of fascism and war.” Presented and orchestrated by the N.C. Symphony, this concert is part of the week-long Hamlet and Shostakovich festival, culminating in the Symphony’s presentation of Shostakovich’s famous score for the 1964 film Hamlet. The Pour HouseA Mexican-born, Texas-bred singer/songwriter, Mando Saenz’s dusty country is keyed to a Siroc-smooth tenor that unwinds lonesome, loping tales of the dispossessed. His debut, Watertown, is swathed in a gauzy distant pedal-steel ache that feels both resigned and resolved.
