Durham Bulls Final Regular Season Game
Durham Bulls Athletic ParkAre you one of those people who spends the whole spring and summer saying, “I gotta get to a Bulls game this season”? Guess what? Season’s over! That is, today’s the last game, and the Bulls have done you a favor by scheduling it on this Labor Day at 1:05 p.m. That leaves you enough time for your cookout later on.
If you’ve missed the action this year, the quick primer is that phenom pitcher David Price didn’t stay long before his promotion to Tampa. But that was just one of a slew of ouchies and other unforeseeables that played havoc with the Bulls’ roster for much of the season. The diminutive fourth-string catcher Craig Albernaz, originally called up in April as an injury replacement, became unexpectedly indispensable and has even pitched and played second base. Meanwhile, manager Charlie Montoyo is probably glad that uniforms have names on them; otherwise he might not have recognized some of the players who passed through his clubhouse. It’s a testament to his leadership, to veteran presence at key positions and to a homer-happy lineup that the team somehow finished the season with a much better record than the 2008 squad. Go out and thank them for a season well done. (By the way, postseason playoffs are a possibility for the Bulls, but at press time, not guaranteed.) Tickets are $7-$9, under age 3 free.
