Water Rites
UNC Studio 6 Theatre–“It’s just water.” How many times have you heard that seemingly simple but highly simplified explanation to perhaps the most crucial thing on our planet? Next time, drop this knowledge: Water has a high surface tension, allowing it to spread evenly; water has a high specific heat index, allowing it absorb heat without getting hot; water is less dense as a solid than a liquid, allowing ice to float; water is the world’s only substance naturally existing in all three states. Take away anyone of those properties, and life wouldn’t be quite so pleasant (or existent). For more hyrdo-talk, show up at 7 p.m. March 2-6.
Teddy Thompson
Local 506–You can’t help but discuss family ties when writing about Teddy Thompson. His new album, Separate Ways, features appearances from such second generation peers as Rufus and Martha Wainwright and Jenni Muldaur. And then there’s the matter of his parents, Linda and Richard Thompson. He’s inherited the incredibly pure voice of the former and the guitar mastery of the latter, and the comfort level he’s reached with those twin gifts has him poised for stardom.
