THE LOST CITY
CAROLINA THEATRE–G. Cabrera Infante may not be quite a household name, but he was one of the most important writers of pre- and post-revolutionary Cuba. Among his books was the modernist Tres Tristes Tigres, which has been (mis)translated as Three Trapped Tigers and is now the basis for a new movie called The Lost City, directed by Andy Garcia. Bill Murray appears as an unnamed writer (Hemingway?), and Dustin Hoffman plays Meyer Lansky. –David Fellerath
WEAVER STREET MARKET–Somewhere in between establishing the ArtsCenter and local radio station WCOM, Jacques Menache found time to use his creative energies to pick up a paint brush and a hammer. Come take a gander at his abstract paintings and multimedia artwork during a reception in honor of his personal collection on display in the Panzanella restaurant. Get there at 5:30 p.m. to get first dibs. –Kathy Justice
DEATH PENALTY PROTEST
