Elizabeth I Exhibit
CAMERON VILLAGE LIBRARY–When Elizabeth Tudor became Elizabeth I, Queen of England in 1558, the country was embattled with religious infighting, a crippling recession and security threats from European nemeses Spain and France. She took a moderate, stabilizing role on religion, steeled the country’s defenses and transformed the economy before dying in 1603, leaving behind a country that had climbed the ranks of European hierarchy. This traveling installation–a photo panel replica of a 2003-04 exhibit at Chicago’s Newberry Library, which hosted original letters to Scotland’s James VI and speeches about Mary Queen of Scots–hangs at Cameron Village Library through Aug. 11. Admission is free.
